Why Is Ventilation Important?

July 14, 2021
How Fresh Air Energy Recovery Works
Fresh air ventilation is important to maintain air quality and remove moisture in your home creating a healthy environment. Home design and improvements have meant that homes are becoming more airtight and easier to heat, this in turn has increased the need for adequate ventilation.

Ventilation Systems

There are two types of ventilation systems available in New Zealand:

Positive pressure roof cavity ventilation systems (air goes in and gets trapped).

These systems typically force air into the home from the attic space and specifically require gaps in the building structure (common in older homes) to facilitate air displacement. As these systems are not designed to recover heat energy to help pre-warm incoming air, colder incoming air will require more additional heating – adding to your power bill.

Balanced pressure fresh air heat recovery ventilation systems (air goes in and comes out).

Balanced ventilation mechanically removes stale air and replaces it with clean, fresh air at the same rate. It is also fitted with a heat exchanger that actively recovers heat energy from the outgoing stale indoor air to pre-warm incoming fresh air. As such, the need for additional heating of fresh air is reduced. This system is specifically designed for modern homes that are of more airtight construction.

Why Is Outside Air Better?

The absence of significant air movement common in attics means the air is likely to be stale. In addition, build-up of dust, dirt and other contaminants such as mould, insect and rodent droppings makes this air much harder to clean through filtration before it is distributed through your home.

Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating is evenly distributed; radiant heating that provides the ultimate in comfort that you cannot see. Hidden from view, under floor heating is particularly suited to modern open plan homes with higher stud and exposed ceilings.

The Mitsubishi Electric Lossnay Difference:

  • Draws in fresh air from the outside not the attic
  • Removes stale air from the inside
  • Circulates fresh air without draughts
  • Heat recovery from stale outgoing air
  • Whisper quiet operation
  • Balanced Pressure Ventilation
  • Designed for modern homes that are more airtight
  • G4 Ventilation Code: In New Zealand the G4 ventilation code requires spaces within buildings to have a means of ventilating with outdoor air. Because the Lossnay uses fresh air (not attic air) to ventilate your home, Lossnay meets the G4 building ventilation code that is designed to protect your health

Living Room Ventilation

Lossnay is the ultimate home ventilation system that provides fresh clean air (from the outside not attic space), removes both moisture and stale indoor air and effectively recovers heat not only from outgoing stale air, but also from damp areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. Featuring the new advanced Diamond Heat Exchanger, heat is recovered from both outgoing stale air as well as from damp areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. This heat is utilised to preheat incoming fresh air so your heating system is not required to work as hard to maintain the desired room temperature.
