The Heat Pump People is passionate about the benefits that come from heat pump systems when compared to other alternatives for heating your home. Their energy efficiency, unobtrusiveness, and ability to spread heat and cooling throughout an area make them an obvious choice.

But even after you’ve made the decision to get a heat pump, there are some important considerations that will determine the right air conditioning system for your situation – residential and commercial.

Selecting an Air Conditioner for your home

For residential purposes , one may choose either a single room system or a multi room heat pump solution. It’s important to consider which system best suits your requirements.

Single Room System

Single split system heat pumps heat and cool individual rooms (or single living areas). Split systems have an external outdoor unit (containing a compressor) and an internal unit that can be mounted either high on the wall or closer to the floor. The internal unit features electronic controls and a fan which circulates air for cooling or heating.

But is a wall mounted heat pump or floor console heat pump better suited to your purposes? This can depend on your environment and the aesthetic choices that go along with it.

Wall mounted heat pumps are positioned high on the wall and so can be less obtrusive. They also perform with low noise levels and come in a range of styles to suit the surrounding décor.

Floor console heat pumps sit close to the floor against a wall. These are more accessible and so provide easy filter cleaning. However, they must be positioned so furniture does not obstruct the airflow and must be situated where they can distribute the warm air to as much of the space as possible. If you want to save space – they can be recessed into the wall.

Multi Room Systems

Multi room systems operate in the same manner as single room systems – except multiple indoor units are linked to one outdoor unit. Instead of multiple individual systems with their own outdoor units, multiple rooms can be effectively cooled with one outdoor unit.

Ducted systems are also widely used residentially. They are aesthetically pleasing and limit the number of outdoor units required.

Commercial

Business performance has a lot to do with the business environment – and effective cooling and heating are essential tools to maintaining a productive business environment.

The Heat Pump People are experts in installing bespoke solutions for your heating and cooling needs – from single split and multi-split systems (discussed above) to VRV and ducted systems.

VRV Systems

This is a multi-split type of air conditioner designed for commercial buildings that employs variable refrigerant flow technology to allow customers the ability to maintain individual zone control in each room and floor of their building.

Ducted Systems

Ducted systems provide well-hidden air conditioning capability. Once installed, cooling and heat flows are regulated through discreet return air and discharge grilles.

How much kW is enough for your room?

The unit size of an air conditioner and heat pump is based on the size of the room that you would like to cool or heat. As a rough guide the following can be reviewed.
  • For a room 10m2 to 20m2, a 2.6kW unit should cool the room;
  • For a room 20m2 to 30m2, a 3.5kW unit should cool the room;
  • For a room 30m2 to 45m2, a 5-6kW unit should cool the room; and
  • For a room 45m2 to 65m2, a 7-8kW unit should cool the room.

Energy Efficiency rating for an Air Conditioner or Heat Pump?

How much maintenance is required for different Air Conditioner & Heat Pumps?

To create an efficient, reliable, longer lasting heating and cooling system and the optimal environment for your home or business we can discuss your requirements and design your tailor-made maintenance schedule. We will visit your business to assess your specific needs and design the best comprehensive, ongoing, preventative maintenance programme for your commercial building.

Generally as a guide we recommend a standard residential unit that is not subject to excessive dirt, usage or contamination one maintenance after the first two years of installation followed by an annual service should be sufficient.

Dependant upon demand on commercial systems, a typical schedule would include one annual comprehensive preventative maintenance visit with quarterly maintenance visits to check the filters in between.

Benefits of Ongoing Preventative Maintenance

  • Regular maintenance improves the performance of your system maintaining comfort levels for your staff
  • Improves efficiency and energy costs
  • Improves air quality
  • Contributes to the extended life of your equipment
  • Allows for early diagnosis of potential failures before they occur, reducing down time of the equipment and allowing time for budget funding if required
  • Can include 12A Building Warrant of Fitness for Mechanical Air Conditioning and Ventilation (if required)
