The Heat Pump People Take You Through the Process of Relocating Your Heat Pump

Renovations or redecoration may require you to relocate your heat pump. In this article, we explore how to best relocate a heat pump. Renovators might consider moving the heat pump themselves. However, it’s important to keep in mind that this task should only be undertaken by a professional.

Why Relocate or Disconnect?

People choose to move their air conditioner for a number of reasons. They may wish to redecorate or relocate walls. The heat pump may currently be obstructing another part of the renovation process such as the fence, landscape or driveway. You may even wish to relocate your system to a new property.

Step-by-step Heat Pump Relocation

After acknowledging that you do wish to move or disconnect your heat pump, the next step is deciding where you want to move it to and how.

Removing the Refrigerant

After checking the operation of your system in its current location, the first step to relocating your heat pump involves pumping out all the refrigerant in the system. This process should be carried out by a qualified professional.

Adjusting the Pipework

Once the system has been pumped down, the indoor and outdoor unit needs to be safely disconnected and made electrically safe. Units will need to be stored safely whilst not in use away from moisture, dust and contaminants.

Depending on whether the indoor and outdoor units are being relocated in the same position after renovations or require relocation, you may need to shorten or extend the pipework and electrical cables to suit.

Completion

Once the system is ready to be re-connected, the heat pump will need to be re-filled with refrigerant gas. It will then be electrically livened and tested with an electrical safety certificate being completed.

Professional Help

As visible above, the work needed to relocate a heat pump is extensive and technical. This is why many people choose to enlist the help of a professional while undertaking the process.

It is much more effective to hire a professional who will ensure that your air conditioner will work smoothly and efficiently after the heat pump is relocated.
