Saving energy year round is a matter of priority for the majority of families.
The Heat Pump Peopleare firm believers in the energy efficiency of our heat pump systems. But we are also passionate about getting the best energy savings for our clients in general.
Here's a list of handy tips for getting the best energy savings you can.
If it's cold out, heating your home can be expensive, so it's important to save money by keeping as much warm air in and cold air out as possible.
Draw your curtains at dusk to keep the accumulated day's heat in. Choose curtains with a separate lining and ensure that they are fitted closely to the window, wide enough to overlap the window frames at the sides, and long enough to touch the floor.
Adding further window insulation either through double glazing your windows, or with the help of DIY insulation kits - will greatly add to heat retention.
Draughts are a major cause of heat loss in homes. Make sure that your windows are properly fitted to their frames. Special draught stopping tapes and door snakes are an effective means of stopping draughts.
If your heat pump is restricted to a single room - or you have multiple units each heating different rooms - then be sure to only heat the room which you need for use - and not to a warmer temperature than is necessary for comfort. Again, keep doors closed to ensure that the heat doesn't leak into rooms you're not using. Operation of heat pump systems is often possible using a Wi-Fi application (or timer) allowing you to turn the system on whilst you are returning home allowing you to use only the power you require.
This is one of the most obvious ones. Lighting is an easy place to use only the power you need to around your house.
Turn off lights when you're not using them, and replace incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient LEDs. To speak to an expert about changing to LEDs contact the team at The Heat Pump People on03 659 0605.
Heating water is expensive, so if you use less hot water then this will make a substantial difference to your energy bills.
By replacing your old showerhead with an energy efficient shower head, you ensure that you're not using more water than is necessary to get a good shower. A good test is to place a 10 litre bucket under your shower. If it fills in less than a minute, it is wasting water. Efficient showerheads have a flow rate of 9 litres per minute or less.
Heat pumps are more energy efficient than a wide range of heating solutions. The EECA (Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority) has identified heat pumps as one of the most energy efficient forms of heating around.
A heat pump typically uses 1kw to create 4kw of heat. A traditional electric heater uses 4kw of power to create 4kw of heat.
